Safety is the highest priority in the Rangers
Valley production system. this means
that the Rangers Valley beef enjoyed in
Australia and overseas is of the utmost
quality and integrity, free from unwanted
residues, hormones and contamination.
The highest safety standards are maintained at each stage of production, from the purchase of cattle and feed and the care of the animals, through to strict
processing operations and the shipment of products.
For the ultimate safety assurance,
Rangers Valley operates a DNA traceability system that allows any Rangers Valley product to be traced back from the meat processing plant, through the feedlot to the original cattle breeder.
To manage this traceability system, DNA samples are collected from the cattle when they enter the Rangers Valley feedlot. Cattle are individually identified, their history is checked against Rangers Valley specifications, including sex, age, and hormone-free status and their details are held on a database.
The Rangers Valley traceability system is further enhanced through the Australian National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS), the Australian mandatory electronic identification system.
Cattle are purchased from selected suppliers whose properties are checked against the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service (AQIS)* database and have no history of chemical residues.
For each cattle consignment to Rangers Valley, suppliers must provide written declarations regarding any chemical or antibiotic usage, any supplementary feed, and stating that growth hormones have not been used.
All feed is tested before entering the Rangers Valley feedlot to ensure that it is free from unwanted residues. All feed suppliers must provide written declarations regarding any chemicals that may have been used on the crop either in the field or in storage.
Rangers Valley prides itself on the natural health and safety of its cattle. At the Rangers Valley feedlot, cattle are fed a scientifically designed ration that provides all the protein, energy, vitamins and minerals needed for growth and development. This minimises the risk of cattle becoming susceptible to disease.
Experienced pen riders assess the well being of individual animals, inspecting every pen of cattle every day. If a pen rider sees any sign of ill health in an animal, it is taken to a hospital facility, and if necessary, it is treated.
Rangers Valley cattle are processed under contract, under strict quarantine and quality assurance standards. Rangers Valley staff supervise all processing, and the processing establishment operates under the strict supervision of AQIS. Daily samples are taken from work surfaces, equipment, carcasses and meat an these samples are tested for unwanted bacteria. Meat samples are tested periodically for chemical residues.
